People of Reddit beyond their late 20’s, what is the best life advice can you give me?

Main Post:

I am 27 years old and I know most people consider that still somewhat young but I feel so old lol. I have been through a lot and I guess I just want to hear you guys’ thoughts on things you wish you would have or wouldn’t have done when you were my age.

I’m considering going back to college to become a therapist but I know I’m going to be paying off student loan for a long time and I’m unemployed right now but looking for work diligently.

People say your 20’s are rough and that 30 is when it starts to get better. Is that true?

What is your life pro tip that has actually changed your life?

Top Comment: Pretend to be a spy. This is a really stupid one, but totally works for me. I always feel nervous going to parties/big social events where I don't know many people- probably most people do. Then I started deciding I would just go and pretend I was the sort of person who doesn't get nervous going to parties where they don't know anyone. For some reason, for me, that person is epitomised by James Bond. He must go to loads of parties where he doesn't know anyone, after all. So now when I start dreading that moment walking into the room, not knowing anyone, awkward small talk, etc, I just decide I'll pretend I'm James Bond and then it will be fine. For some reason, it really helps. I still have to make awkward small talk and stuff, but hanging around on my own people-watching for a bit feels more comfortable when I'm in this headspace and I chat to people more confidently, which makes conversations happen more, which minimises nervous not-sure-what-to-do time. Important note: only pretend to be a spy in your head; do not actually act like a spy. That may make things more weird and awkward rather than less.

A redditor once remarked on how he realised how much he didn't know about a topic he was really passionate about.

He then said something along the lines of reserving our judgement for things we know very little about, like stuff that's covered in the news etc.

I've taken that advice to heart, and become less judgemental about things I don't know very much about. It's made me less angry, less depressed, and less sceptical about the world in general.
